Dealing With The Dealer

As a craps player in a live casino, the casino official you will be dealing with the most is the craps dealer. This person is responsible for a great deal, and your life will be inextricably linked with theirs. If you plan on being a serious craps player you must learn to work with the dealer and thrive together. Here is how it is done.

Craps casinos operate like any other segment of the service industry. The dealer is the casinos liaison and they are the ones who are supposed to make your playing experience as fun and exciting as possible. Although dealers work for the casino, they are usually craps players as well and they really like watching you win. Not only do they have that common bond of being a fellow player, but a hot craps table is a fun work environment. Also, craps dealers get paid more when you win via tips. Whether you win or lose, the casino itself will be paying them the same wage.

Dealers are responsible for keeping track of the bets placed, and dealing with all of the customers. This is a job that requires a great deal of focus, and at times they will make mistakes. If a dealer does make a mistake that affects you, make a point of speaking up. If they don’t immediately correct the mistake, or if there is any confusion about what happened, the boxman or another floor official can step in and help resolve the issue. Worst case, the you can resort to the security tapes, which are their to protect you as well as the casino, and make sure everyone is getting a fair deal.

Remember above all that the dealer is a person just like you, and while they are dealing they are at work. There is no reason to get frustrated with a dealer’s mistakes because it is so easy to get them rectified. Also, when you do well, as you’d expect, tips are definitely appreciated. Good dealers make way more money from their tips than they do from their salary.
